Our Church Story

Discover the heart and journey of Back Porch Church.

Back Porch Church began as a small gathering of friends seeking a deeper connection with God. We welcome everyone to join us in worship, prayer, and community, creating a space where all feel at home.

Pull up a chair. You’re welcome here.

Back Porch Church began the way many good stories do—out of necessity, faith, and a couple of rocking chairs.

In the early days of the COVID pandemic, when the world shut down and church doors were locked, we knew one thing for certain: we would not abandon the practice of our faith. So we gathered – safely, simply, and faithfully – on a back porch. With Bibles in our laps and coffee in hand, we worshiped God from porch swings, folding chairs, and lawn furniture. We prayed. We read Scripture. We encouraged each other. And what started as a handful of people seeking connection and spiritual grounding grew into a vibrant, Spirit-led community.

Today, we meet indoors—yes, with a roof and air conditioning—but we’ve never lost the spirit of the porch. That same sense of closeness, casual comfort, and honest conversation still defines us. Back Porch Church remains a place where people are welcomed as they are, where questions are encouraged, and where the Gospel is lived out in real, everyday ways.

We’re not about performance or polish. We’re about presence—being present with one another, with God, and with the world He’s called us to serve. Whether you’re strong in your faith, carrying doubts, or just curious about Jesus, there’s a place for you here.

Back Porch Church isn’t just a name. It’s a way of being the Church—simple, sincere, and grounded in the love of Christ.

Frequently Asked Questions

What time is your service?

We meet on Saturdays at 5pm. Our worship service typically lasts about an hour. Come a few minutes early to grab a seat and say hello – we love connecting before and after service.

What should I wear?

Come as you are! Most folks dress casual and comfortable, but you’ll see a little bit of everything – jeans, dresses, even shorts. We’re more about hearts than outfits.

What do you believe?

We believe in the authority of Scripture, the saving grace of Jesus Christ, and the transforming power of the Holy Spirit. Salvation is a gift from God, available to all through faith in Jesus. We value deep, Bible-based teaching and authentic community rooted in love and truth.

Where are you located?

Our service is at 1041 Ninth St. We are currently renting space from the 1st Presbyterian Church on Saturday evenings at 5pm. Parking is available on-site and there’s plenty of space.

What’s the worship like?

Our worship is a blend of old and new. You’ll hear both classic hymns like How Great Thou Art and Amazing Grace alongside simple, piano-led contemporary songs. The atmosphere is authentic, reverent, reflective, spirit-led, and welcoming.

Is there a free trial available?

Yes, we offer a free trial period of 14 days. During this period, you will have full access to all of our features and services.

Are you affiliated with a denomination?

Yes – we are a proud member of the Global Methodist Church (GMC). The GMC is a theologically conservative, Spirit-led denomination rooted in Wesleyan tradition, emphasizing grace, discipleship, and global mission. As part of the Global Methodist Church, we are committed to upholding the authority of Scripture, making disciples of Jesus Christ, and serving our community with love and integrity.

You can learn more about the Global Methodist Church at globalmethodist.org.

We cherish our connection to the broader body of Christ and also deeply value the unique, porch-style fellowship God is growing right here in our local church.

What small groups or Bible studies are available?

We currently offer a weekly Women’s Bible Study (Ladies of the Porch) and are prayerfully planning to expand with men’s groups and mixed small groups in the near future. All studies are grounded in Scripture and open to anyone seeking to grow in faith and fellowship.

How do I submit a prayer request?

We take prayer seriously. We have a time during our service on Saturday night when we share our joys and concerns or, if you prefer, you can submit your request here. You will have the option of keeping it anonymous or sharing with the congregation.

How do I give to the church?

We have a simple giving plate available during Saturday services for tithes and offerings. We’re also in the process of setting up a secure online giving option to make it even easier to support the ministry of Back Porch Church. Giving is never pressured – we believe generosity is a joyful response to God’s goodness.
