About the Gospel of Matthew
Matthew’s Gospel is a bridge—connecting the Old Testament promises to the New Testament fulfillment. Writing primarily for a Jewish audience, Matthew shows us that Jesus is the long-awaited Messiah, the true King from the line of David, and the fulfillment of God’s covenant with Abraham.
This Gospel emphasizes:
- Jesus as King and Teacher, greater than Moses, giving us a new law of love and righteousness
- Fulfilled prophecy, showing how Jesus completes what was written in the Law and the Prophets
- The Kingdom of Heaven, not as a future destination, but as a present reality breaking into the world
- Discipleship, inviting us to follow Jesus not just with our words, but with our whole lives
From the genealogy that opens chapter 1 to the Great Commission that closes chapter 28, Matthew presents a compelling, challenging, and deeply personal portrait of Jesus the Messiah.
